This is an intriguing topic in the world of not only health but self-mastery for men. In this article I will provide two sections for you to explore, first is a presentation providing all of the informative tools to aid in your recirculation mastery journey. The second section will provide an interview I conducted with a man who has years of experience under his belt towards mastering the art of recirculation. Recirculation has proven to be an incredible tool for health, energy, and even birth control on the male side of the coin and if successfully mastered. You may find you’ll never experience energetic depletion or fears of unwanted pregnancy again while even knowing how to heal yourself on profound levels simply by directing your life force energy consciously.
Starting with a brief backstory, In the realms of ancient Taoist practices, particularly popularized by the teachings of Mantak Chia, there exists a profound and transformative approach to male sexuality – the art of recirculating energy during ejaculation. This ancient wisdom suggests that men can retain and channel their life force energy, vitalizing their physical and spiritual well-being. Let’s begin shedding light on how this practice can contribute to increased vitality, heightened spiritual awareness, and even serve as a method of male contraception.
Traditionally, Taoist philosophy posits that ejaculation represents a significant loss of life force energy, or "jing." In this worldview, it's believed that a single ejaculation expends a substantial amount of vital energy, leaving the body depleted and susceptible to fatigue, both physically and spiritually.
Mantak Chia, a modern exponent of Taoist practices, emphasizes the importance of conserving this vital energy through techniques such as the "Microcosmic Orbit" and "Testicle Breathing." These practices involve circulating sexual energy throughout the body, allowing men to experience heightened states of arousal without ejaculatory release.
The Microcosmic Orbit is a specific energy pathway that runs along the spine, connecting various energy centers in the body.
For men, this technique involves guiding the flow of energy, often referred to as "Qi" or "Chi," through a circuit that includes the governing vessel (Du Mai) and the functional vessel (Ren Mai). The Du Mai runs up the spine, while the Ren Mai runs down the front of the body. The goal is to create a continuous loop of energy circulation.
The practitioner typically starts by becoming aware of their breath and using it to guide the movement of energy. Through focused breathing and visualization, the energy is guided up the spine (Du Mai) and then down the front of the body (Ren Mai). This circulating energy is believed to have various benefits, including increased vitality, improved overall health, and enhanced spiritual well-being.
You can start small, with no intention of arousal, just begin breathing into this circulating energy and move this flow with your breath. Once you have that down, work with yourself to guide this energy during arousal states. Below in the interview will provide more detail on the sensations and methods you could use to achieve this.
The fundamental principle behind recirculating energy is to redirect the flow of sexual energy away from ejaculation and towards nourishing the internal organs, promoting overall well-being. Proponents of this practice claim increased energy levels, enhanced mental clarity, and a heightened sense of spiritual awareness.
Beyond the physical advantages, recirculating energy is said to foster emotional balance and spiritual growth. By channeling sexual energy upward through the body's energy centers, individuals may experience a profound sense of connectedness, inner peace, and a deeper understanding of their own spirituality.
One intriguing aspect of ejaculatory recirculation is its potential as a natural method of male contraception. By practicing conscious control over ejaculation and redirecting sexual energy away from reproductive channels, men may reduce the likelihood of sperm release during intercourse, providing a non-invasive alternative to conventional birth control methods.
It's important to note that mastering the art of ejaculatory recirculation requires dedication, practice, and a deep understanding of one's own body. As with any transformative practice, seeking guidance from experienced teachers or practitioners can enhance the learning process and ensure safe exploration of these techniques.
A great place to start would be reading the book “Awaken Healing Energy Through the Tao” as a beginning to sensing your internal energies and knowing how to direct them. Then moving on to the more advanced book “Cultivating the Male Sexual Energy” again by Mantak Chia. If you happen to have a female partner who is just as interested in self-mastery as you I suggest for her “Healing Love Through the Tao: Cultivating the Female Sexual Energy”. There are even a few couple's sexual alchemy books around the topic that you could find simply by typing in “Mantak Chia books” into Amazon or google.
If you want to get more serious about these practices or learn better through different kinds of methods outside of books, Mantak Chia has online classes surrounding Sexual Alchemy through this website:

In a world that often focuses on the physical aspects of sexuality, the ancient wisdom of ejaculatory recirculation invites men to explore the profound connection between their sexual energy, vitality, and spiritual well-being. As individuals embark on this holistic journey, they may discover not only the potential for increased physical vitality but also a deepened connection to their own inner selves and the energy that animates their existence. Whether pursued for personal development, spiritual growth, or as a natural approach to contraception, the art of ejaculatory recirculation stands as a testament to the intricate interplay of mind, body, and spirit.
In hopes to provide a little more detailed insight on this topic, we will now go into a previously conducted interview.
Q: How did you learn this method in the first place?
A: Learned it somewhere online after extensive research about longevity health and men's health in general. You only have so much you can work with, your body, your vessel, and we are not really taught about anything about ourselves as we grow up so I was just searching about hormones, supplements, foods, and whatnot when this method popped up and it just made sense. You don’t really know what it is you are releasing or what you are losing when you ejaculate. Some people can tell that they have a lull in energy or feel drained, but what is that? What is the real cause of that? So I started reading what sperm actually is, which I discovered it’s really refined vitamins, minerals, and nutrients of all the very essence of what you need. After the body has already processed food and taken the best of that, it refines it into semen. If it is just nutrients and whatnot then you are actually in a way starving yourself by constantly releasing all of your most refined health.
Q: So when you started getting into this it was with the intention of “how can I maintain and boost my nutrient levels for optimum health”?
A:Ya just more of a health aspect, at the time I was really big into working out and doing what I could to optimize myself. So I Thought “What is the next thing you do when you elevate what you’re doing?” Because really diet, exercise, supplements, and nutrition can only take you so far, so I was searching for a whole body alignment.
Q: Did you just start coming across articles? Books? Something that taught you about recirculation?
A: First off it’s just more about retention when you start to research it, so I started with not even having sex or anything of that nature, ejaculation or masturbating. And then I thought “Well that sounds terrible too there’s got to be better ways” (laughter) and apparently there is! There are practices from all over the world whether it be the eastern or even Greek framework of things where it's not only a form of birth control but also to retain all of those nutrients and essence of what you are to use it for something else that is more vitalizing. Which lead into the whole “Mind, Thought, Soul” aspects of life, but yeah there are practices all around that which just started to spring up. I’m sure if we did a Google search right now all sorts of things would start popping up.
Q: What was the first practice you started doing to train you to know how to recirculate?
A: The first one was slowing my breathing because if you excite your nervous system or get yourself amped up, it will do that to your organs as well. Then you have less control, and you're already stimulated so high that it just pushes you closer to that orgasm state anyway, so breathing just starts to prolong that. There are so many exercises you can do from breathing or literally visualizing the area where your sperm is (Testis) and not allowing it to move past anything and holding it where it is, plus using and engaging the muscles around the whole area from the root of your spine to the head and bringing the energy up there rather than pushing it out through the regular way.
Q: So as the sensation comes up that's when you want to pull it back into yourself.
A: Yes, that is the idea, instead of releasing the energy that you are feeling, you’re actually pulling it into yourself. I think there’s this idea that that is how it is supposed to be…. you're a man and he ejaculates and pushes out his essence or his energy, or emotions or whatever, and that’s kind of the typical male role that most people see. But that’s not really the case, you can do anything with it! There are practices about completely nonsexual topics where you push your feet back into the earth and dissipate it. More spiritual veins of things whether alchemists or monks or things of that nature, it’s more about using that energy as a spiritual, mental, emotional energy that you can use for anything! Manifesting or creating something, healing anything, research, mental clarity. Because again there is a lul of energy when you just release your orgasm and ejaculate without care, and I don’t think that that is always a bad thing sometimes maybe you have too much energy that needs to be lulled, I just don’t think that is meant to happen every time you have an orgasm especially when you can use this powerful lifeforce energy to fuel something else in your life.
Q: So in Mantak Chia, they talk about the recirculation of the orgasmic energy into your microcosmic orbit, and In the Urban Tantra book they talk about using the build up and release energy to heal or energize different organs, so if you have chest pain you intentionally send your orgasmic energy into the chest to heal it, or if you have back tension you pull that energy up and flow it through the areas you have tension to allow your body to rebuild.
A: We’ll that goes into a deeper theology, because in Traditional Chinese medicine, if you as a male specifically, are ejaculating or “wasting” this energy all of the time it leads to lower back tension, knee pain, and overall weakness of the lower body, and I find that an interesting aspect to observe. Men tend to have lower body pains and I wonder how deeply associated it is with releasing too much sexual energy in an unconscious way. It’s almost like your fire that’s inside you that's giving you all the energy your body needs, it can't reach to the lower parts of you because it’s so far away, so it’s almost like your radiance is lessened. So it becomes diminished.
Q: Ok so in the practice you said you started out as exercising the muscles around your reproductive area and focusing on where your sperm is plus visualizing it either staying or dispersing in other areas of your body, do you do that just as you start to build up and before the release? Or what does it feel like when you should start engaging in the focus?
A: It’s more like the whole time. Right as you start to engage in sexual activity or energy. If you try to start the redirection half way through the energy build up you might already be too late. It’s an interesting practice because you have to be aware of it the whole time even during the build up. It’s almost like, well for me, there’s this point at the very beginning that you could call “the point of no return” that happens very early on. You might not see a physical release but there could have been a partial release, this is talked about in the Greek practice that there is a gate that literally doesn’t allow semen to pass, and if you already get too far past that, it may not come out the rest of you. Which of course you will pee out later, but that’s not something you want. Semen stagnant in an area it’s not meant to be I wouldn’t say is positive towards your health. It would have been better to just release it all at that point.
Q: Basically if you feel yourself slip past the gate of no return you should just commit to the release and relax.
A: Yes!
Q: When you’re focusing on redirecting the energy is it strenuous? Or has it evolved to be more simple? Or was it just hard in the beginning?
A: No it’s not hard or strenuous now, it was hard in the beginning because it’s just like any other muscle that hasn’t been exercised, it was really weak. It took me probably anywhere from 3 to 6 maybe even 9 months before I was able to be consistently fully committing to it. I could succeed at it in the beginning but it wasn’t a natural second nature practice until around 9 months.
Q: Are there any exercises that can help with that?
A: Kegel exercises, any pelvic floor exercise, any of the muscles that are attached to the balls. There’s even an exercise to raise your genitals inside of you and slowly release them out. Honestly, just any muscle movement practice around your entire genital area will fuel this practice.
Q: Basically just tonifying all of your pelvic muscles
A: Yes, just whatever you can do to strengthen the pelvis in general will help. It’s not even that you have to be very strong, in fact, I had hit a point where I over-exercised the whole area and it began to become too much, which created more tension than actual comfort release.
Q: There’s got to be a balance of directing it but not forcing the energy or over-tensing the area?
A: Yes, because this is where people tend to get prostate issues (Not necessarily because of this practice but tensing your pelvis during an orgasm) from not having any strength in their inner pelvic floor muscles and then suddenly tensing it through orgasms. It's healthy to be toned and have exercise and blood flow, but you don’t want it to be squozen tight.
Q: Did you personally have more visualization processes or did you stick mostly with tuning into the physical sensations?
A: For me, I always imagine this storage area and a tube that goes out, I focus on holding it in the storage area. Or even imagining it as a funnel and I imagine the storage area gets pulled back through this funnel and pushing it everywhere into my system. I imagine my whole nervous system, my veins pulling it up and dispersing it out into my arms, my head, and my toes. Imagine as if you were pulling in electricity and storing it everywhere! Pushing it into your bones, because if you can truly direct it you can feed your bone marrow, your nervous system, and your muscles, so I try to envision it everywhere throughout your whole system for full body nourishment.
Q: Any tips or tricks from your experiences?
A: The biggest thing is there is no rush. Of course, it’s an amazing practice for health, birth control, and energizing, but don’t just give up after a month of practicing. It’s a lot to master and assimilate but remember it’s for you and getting in touch with your own body, the more you practice that, the easier it should be. They even talk about it in regular fitness coaching, you can focus and set your mind on one particular muscle or part of you to enhance the effects of what it’s doing. It’s all about getting your mind and body on the same page to move the spirit. So give yourself time to play and experience that tangible awareness and union with your body.
Q: Do you think it would be helpful to know your anatomy more? To help you know what’s even going on down there?
A: I feel that was a big part of it for me personally, I looked up diagrams of the reproductive organs just to help visualize and get an idea of what’s going on because obviously you can't look down and see all of the functions, you know the feeling, but to have some sort of visualization to go off of is really helpful. Breath exercises also are so helpful, there are so many different types of breathwork but specifically focus on ones that calm the system.
Q: Ok so you wouldn’t want to practice with a breathwork that focuses on invigorating the system. Is it more about calming the system while still being sexually stimulated?
A: It's almost like when they use airbags to lift something, it’s literally the force of the air inside that is pushing out and I would say it’s almost like that, you're calming yourself down, reracting yourself in, but that energy is dispersing and pushing on that, so it's like you're really calming down and coming back in, but the energy is naturally building in you, so it has this effect where it’s pushing on both ends. I feel that’s the thing that is energizing you and invigorating you, almost in a way pushing it to everywhere inside of you.
But really I think it could be anything you want, whatever natural image arises to help you find that fine line of relaxed energy building and direction.
Q: How do you feel afterward? What is your energy like when you successfully recirculate?
A: Really Strong! It’s one of those things where you could have multiple sessions of sexual activity because you aren't depleting yourself. The energy is still there, it doesn’t leave you, in fact, it fuels your energy to be able to do more because you just built it up and refined it into a supercharged force of energy now radiating throughout your body. You already are feeling the glow of satisfaction through the orgasm, and now you still have it permeating within you which you can even continue to build on. This can be where it gets tricky to have discipline and it becomes harder to hold back. There’s so much energetic build-up that eventually it will want to go somewhere. The level of that depends on the development of your practice too, the more you practice the more your vessel may withstand holding so much lifeforce energy. As it builds up though, you might notice each time you recirculate the line begins to blur of when you know if you’re going to release or successfully recirculate. So there’s a point where if you know yourself enough and you’ve recirculated so many times in a row, this may be the time to just allow it to flow and set an intention to allow that.
Q: I’d say that would be a great time, if you have a female partner who is in tune with her body enough to know when she is fertile or not, to then release inside of her so the energy can actually play back and forth, (even better if she knows how to recirculate it back into you through the present touch). So in a sense not just dispersing your overflowing energy out into nothingness but dispersed in a partner who feeds it back to you. At least that’s the ideal goal to work towards as partners mastering their own bodies and then sharing the mastery.
